The Harrowing of Hell

The figure of Christ is shared by the front and side faces of the column. His right hand holds the waist of his aunt Elizabeth on the front while on the right face his other arm hugs Adam's shoulders. His victory over Death and Satan is represented by the long spear thrust into the mouth of the monster in the lower right, guided by the small female figure seen above the monster. It is conventional for Harrowing of Hell images to represent Eve and King David as well as Adam, so we may assume that here Eve is the female figure just behind Adam and David is the crowned man standing above them.
